How much does 3D printing cost worldwide? Electricity and filament

Reference values for estimating costs in any country, shown in US dollars. If your country has its own version, its calculator already includes local electricity rates and filament prices.

Reference residential electricity rate by country

Electricity prices vary a lot from country to country. These are the reference rates each version of the calculator uses, in local currency and with taxes:

    CountryReference rate
    Uruguay$ 10,31/kWh
    BrazilR$ 1,01/kWh
    Argentina$ 218,50/kWh
    Mexico$ 2.42/kWh

Frequently asked questions about costs worldwide

How much electricity does a 3D printer use per hour worldwide?

At the international reference rate of US$ 0.150/kWh: a Bambu Lab A1 mini (about 80 W) costs US$ 0.012 per hour, a Bambu Lab P1S (about 105 W) costs US$ 0.016 per hour, and a Bambu Lab H2D (about 200 W) costs US$ 0.030 per hour. These are average figures while printing; preheating draws more, but only for a few minutes.

How do I work out the real cost per kWh from my electricity bill?

On your electricity bill, find the total amount due and the kWh used in the billing period, then divide one by the other. That's the real cost of each kWh, including taxes and fixed charges. Use “Calculate from my bill” to do the math for you.

How much should I charge per gram for 3D printing worldwide?

The filament alone costs US$ 0.018 per gram (PLA at US$ 18.00/kg). On top of that come electricity (about US$ 0.016 per hour on a Bambu Lab P1S), your time, packaging, failed prints and your profit, so a flat per-gram price rarely covers everything. Enter the part in the calculator to find out what to charge.

What taxes apply when selling 3D prints worldwide?

Almost every country taxes sales with VAT or a similar tax, usually between 5% and 25%. What applies to you depends on the country and on how you sell. This is general information, not tax advice: check your situation with an accountant.

What the electricity for one print costs worldwide

A 3-hour print on a Bambu Lab P1S, which draws about 105 W on average, uses 0.315 kWh. At the international reference rate of US$ 0.150/kWh, the electricity for that print costs US$ 0.047.

    105 W × 3 h= 0.315 kWh× US$ 0.150/kWh= US$ 0.047

For comparison: 50 g of PLA at US$ 18.00/kg costs US$ 0.900, so electricity adds 5.3% on top of the filament cost.
